In this remarkable photograph from the German Bundesarchiv, French soldiers keep an eye on Koblenz during the post-war occupation of the Rhineland.

These soldiers are giving their attention to the point at which the Rhine meets the Moselle; this famous triangular headland, known as the Deutches Eck, is home to a rather excellent equestrian monument to Kaiser Wilhelm I.
